Aufbauseminar für Fahranfänger (ASF)
The ASF (Seminar for Novice Drivers) is designed for new drivers in their probationary period who have committed traffic violations. Its goal is to improve driving behaviour and prevent future infractions. When an ASF is mandated, the probationary period is extended by an additional 2 years. The seminar lasts 2 to 4 weeks, and upon completion, you will receive a certificate to present to the licensing authority.
Overview
Background
The ASF is mandated when novice drivers commit serious (Category A) or repeated (Category B) traffic violations. Category A violations include severe offenses such as excessive speeding or running a red light, while Category B includes repeated minor offenses like using a phone while driving.
Procedure
The first appointment is scheduled, and failing to attend without proper cancellation can risk losing your driving license. The ASF consists of 4 group sessions of 135 minutes each, with 6-12 participants, aimed at improving driving behavior. Between sessions, a driving assessment must be completed. After all sessions are finished, participants receive a certificate.
